Stroke Control
The following tips have been translated to make it easier to understand for our beginners. Beginners (as well as Intermediates Players) should remember the way you hit the ball (stroke) and how you place your shots (control) are the keys to good tennis.
Your stroke priorities should be as follows:
- Get the ball over the net. (keep the ball in play)
- Get the ball deep. (keep your opponent at the baseline)
- Establish an ability to control the direction of the ball. (hit the ball where you want it to go)
- Establish the ability to control spin. (learn to hit balls with spin consistently)
- Hit with power. (hit the ball with enough speed to make your opponent hurry or change his stroke)
Your "control" priorities should be as follows:
- Control yourself. (don't try to do too much, don't rush)
- Control the ball. (place the ball where you want)
- Control your half of the court. (let your partner play)
- Control the point. (make your opponenent make the hard shots)
- Control your opponent. (keep your opponent off-balance or at the baseline)
